Fluted 12 flame burs are used primarily for finishing and trimming surfaces in restorative dentistry and orthodontics. Achieve a smooth finish to a composite, also removes composite. Also used for contouring gingiva, gingivoplasty, and gingivectomy.
Friction grip (FG) burs are typically used in high-speed handpieces. iM3 recommends disposing of burs between each patient or if they become dull during long procedures, to reduce turbine wear on the high-speed handpiece. These burs are intended for single use, and the cost should be factored into each procedure.
